Hupeh Province is located in east-central China. The mint was active from the early Manchu dynasty, and adapted for modern coin mintage in 1895. Altho the regime decreed the striking of one, five, ten and twenty cash in copper, the vast majority produced were ten cash. This specimen was lot 55199 in Stack's Bowers Hong Kong auction (Hong Kong, April 2021), where it sold for $456. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. Hupeh. 10 Cash, CD (1909). PCGS MS-63 Brown Gold Shield. A gorgeous example of the type, with razor sharp strike detail, full silky luster, and faintly red-brick patina."
