Hungary went thru many vicissitudes after the collapse of the Dual Monarchy in 1918. Hungary became independent but was shorn of its territories in Slovakia, Transylvania and Croatia. She fell under the dictatorship of Admiral Horthy and was a reluctant ally of Germany during World War Two, for which she was devastated by the Russian Red Army. This coin was issued 1996-98 for circulation, 1999-2000 for sets, by the post-Communist regime.
