Hungary 1658-KB 2 thaler Dav-3197
This specimen was lot 4766 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €26,000 (about US$35,768 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Ferdinand III., 1625-1637-1657. Doppelter Reichstaler 1658 KvB, Kremnitz. Posthume Prägung. · FERDINAND (Madonna mit Kind auf Mondsichel) III · D : G · RO · I · S · AVG · GER (Gekröntes ungarisches Wappen) HV · BOH · REX · Geharnischtes Brustbild r. mit Lorbeerkranz, Spitzenkragen, umgelegtem Mantel und einem Schmuckkollier, darunter an einem Band die Kette des Ordens vom Goldenen Vlies//ARCHIDVX · AVS · DVX · BVR · MAR · MOR · CO · TY · I658 Gekrönter Doppeladler mit Schwert und Zepter in den Fängen, auf der Brust gekröntes, vierfeldiges Wappen mit Mittelschild, umher die Kette des Ordens vom Goldenen Vlies, unten das geteilte Münzstättenzeichen K - v - B. Extremely rare, handsome patina, about extremely fine.)"
The Kremnitz mint struck this double thaler 1641, 1644, 1650-55 and 1658. All dates are rare. This example realized twelve times the catalog value. Three, four and five thalers were also made. Hungary in 1658 was partitioned between the Austrians and the Turks and was not part of the Empire.
