Hungary 1654-KB thaler Dav-3198
This specimen was lot 4531 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €600 (about US$787 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Ferdinand III. 1625-1637-1657. Reichstaler 1654, KB, Kremnitz. Hübsche Patina, vorzüglich. (Austria, Ferdinand III, 1637-57, thaler of 1654, Kremnitz mint. Handsome patina, extremely fine.)"
This type was struck without change 1637-61, rendering it one of the more common thalers of the period. The SCWC correctly catalogs this under Hungary, not Austria. Hungary in 1654 was partitioned between the Austrians and the Turks and was not part of the Empire.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 28.67 g.
