"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Ferdinand III. 1625-1637-1657. Dukat 1638, NB, Nagybánya. GOLD. Von großer Seltenheit. Kl. Randfehler, sehr schön. (Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand III, 1637-57, ducat of 1638, Nagybánya mint. Extremely rare, minor edge flaws, very fine.)"

This scarce type is traditionally filed under Hungary as it bears the portrait of Ferdinand III, Holy Roman Emperor and king of Hungary, but it was actually struck in Transylvania. In 1638, both lands were still dominated by the Turks.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.50 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3.44 g.
