Künker Auction 439, lot 2252

This specimen was lot 2252 in Künker sale 439 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €7,000 (about US$9,630 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Maximilian II., 1564-1576. Dukat 1565 KB, Kremnitz. GOLD. Vorzüglich +. (Holy Roman Empire, Maximilian II, 1564-76, ducat of 1565, Kremnitz mint. Extremely fine or better.)"

The Kremnitz mint struck ducats for Ferdinand (KM MB205) and Maximilian (KM MB214, shown here) in 1565. This one, struck 1565-72, is slightly scarcer. Hungary in 1565 was still largely dominated by the Turks and the prince of Transylvania.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3,48 g.

Catalog reference: KM MB214, Fr-57; Huszar 973.
