Hungary 1552-NC ducat Fr-49
This specimen was lot 2246 in Künker sale 439 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €3,200 (about US$4,402 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Ferdinand I., 1522-1558-1564. Dukat 1552 NC, Nagybánya. GOLD. R Winz. Probierspur am Rand, kl. Kratzer, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand I, 1522-64, ducat of 1552, Nagybánya mint. Rare, minor tool mark on the edge, hairlines, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
Friedberg lists this type for 1527-65 from Kremnitz (Fr-48), Neustadt (shown here, struck 1552-55) and Hermannstadt (Fr-50). The larger part of Hungary was divided between the Turks and the prince of Transylvania; Ferdinand held only a slice in the west and north.
