Sincona sale 90, lot 2081

This specimen was lot 2081 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 1,500 CHF (about US$1,982 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"UNGARN, Wladislaus V. 1453-1457. Goldgulden o. J. (1453), Kremnitz. Kammergraf Johann Constorffer. Fast vorzüglich. Feine Goldpatina. Kleiner Schrötlingsfehler. (kingdom of Hungary, Ladislaus V, 1453-57, undated goldgulden, circa 1453, Kremnitz mint. About extremely fine, Nice gold toning, Minor flan flaw.)"

The ducats or florins or goldgulden of Hungary are among the more common gold coins of the late middle ages. Ladislaus V was crowned king of Hungary in May 1440, aged three months. He spent most of his short life as the tool of various regents jockeying for control of Hungary and Bohemia. This was struck the year Constantinople fell to the Turks.
