Sincona sale 90, lot 2078

This specimen was lot 2078 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 2,050 CHF (about US$2,709 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"UNGARN, Wladislaus V. 1453-1457. Goldgulden o. J. (1447-1451), Kremnitz. Kammergraf Peter Jung. Selten. NGC AU58. (kingdom of Hungary, Ladislaus V, 1453-57, undated goldgulden, circa 1447-51, Kremnitz mint. Rare.)"

The ducats or florins or goldgulden of Hungary are among the more common gold coins of the late middle ages. Ladislaus V was crowned king of Hungary in May 1440, aged three months. He spent most of his short life as the tool of various regents jockeying for control of Hungary and Bohemia.
