This specimen was lot 23916 in Heritage sale 3015 (Long Beach, September 2011), where it sold for $44,562.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Hunan. Republic Dollar Year 11 (1922), MS65+ PCGS, a gorgeous example of the Provincial Constitution commemorative with full mint bloom and subtle gray to sea green patina. Certainly among the finest known and a coin with exceptional eye appeal." The decline and collapse of the Manchu dynasty, followed by the anarchy of the early Republic, led many provincial mints to strike their own designs. These have always been scarce and desirable but have exploded in price in recent years.
Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.
Specification: 27.4 g, silver.
