Hong Kong 1979 20 cents
This specimen was lot 72309 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, ""HONG KONG. 20 Cents, 1979. PCGS SPECIMEN-64 Gold Shield. An intensely alluring and brilliant Near Gem, this blazing specimen strike offers majestic red-bronze hues and charming eye appeal. Ex: King's Norton Mint Collection." Silver twenty cents were struck for Hong Kong until 1905. When the denomination resumed in 1975, it was a much smaller coin in nickel-brass. This alloy was used until 1998. This type was struck 1975-83 and is worthless in all grades. In 1997, the territory was returned to China.
