Stack's Bowers October 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71189

This specimen was lot 71189 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "HONG KONG. 5 Cents, 1963. NGC MS-63. This lustrous little minor exhibits a bold strike displaying attractive brassy coloration." Hong Kong was seized by the British from China in 1842 and held by them until its return in 1997. In Hong Kong, 100 cents = one dollar; sterling coinage was never used there. This type was struck 1958, 1960, 1963-67. The bust of Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse.

Recorded mintage: 7,000,000 + proofs.
