from the Stack's Bowers 2020 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71034

This specimen was lot 71034 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, February 2020), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "HONG KONG. 10 Cents, 1957-KN. Kings Norton Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-65 Gold Shield. A well struck and highly lustrous coin with one or two freckles of toning. Ex: Kings Norton Mint Collection." This type was struck at the Heaton and King's Norton Mints 1955-1968 and this date is listed as fairly common in all grades. This module and alloy was introduced in 1948 and used until 1982, when the denomination was reduced to 2 grams. British coinage for Hong Kong ceased in 1997 when the island was returned to China. The bust of Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse.

Recorded mintage: 2,800,000 plus more from Heaton.

Specification: 4.46 g, nickel-brass, security edge, 20.5 mm diameter.
