This specimen was lot 71590 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "HONG KONG. 5 Cents, 1898. London Mint. Victoria. PCGS MS-67 Gold Shield. KM-5. Tied for the second finest certified by PCGS for the year. Lightly toned with cartwheel luster." Hong Kong was seized by the British from China in 1842 and held by them until its return in 1997. In Hong Kong, 100 cents = one dollar; sterling coinage was never used there. This type was struck at the Royal Mint 1872-1901 and this date is listed as common in all grades.
