Stack's Bowers 2021 NYINC sale, lot 24045

This specimen was lot 24045 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "HONG KONG. 50 Cents, 1894. London Mint. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, EF Details Gold Shield. A decently struck coin with even gray toning throughout. The noted cleaning has not resulted in more than a few isolated hairlines and overall the coin has a solid, presentable appearance." This type was struck at the London mint 1890-94 (shown here) and at Heaton 1891-92.

Recorded mintage: 130,000 + proofs.

Specification: 13.58 g, 0.800 fine silver.
