Sincona sale 69, lot 868

This specimen was lot 868 in Sincona sale 69 (Zürich, May 2021), where it sold for 3,400 CHF (about US$4,513 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"THE NETHERLANDS | Province of Holland. 2 Dukaten 1768. Abschlag von den Stempeln des Scheepjesschelling (6 Stüber). Selten. (Netherlands, province of Holland, double ducat of 1768, off-metal strike using schilling dies. Rare. NGC MS62.)"

The regular billon Scheepjesschelling was struck 1701-05, 1708-37, 1745-54, 1759-63, 1767, while the gold version was struck 1702-03, 1709, 1722-84, 1789-94.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: regular issue: 4.95 g, 0.583 fine silver; presentation version: 6.98 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 6.94 g.
