Hohnstein in 1789, as part of Hannover and Prussia

This specimen was lot 923 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €220 (about US$297 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOHNSTEIN, GRAFSCHAFT, Volkmar Wolfgang, 1562-1582. Reichstaler 1572, Ellrich. Ausbeute der Grube St. Andreas. Sehr schön. (Germany, county of Hohnstein, Volkmar Wolfgang, 1562-82, mining thaler of 1572, Ellrich mint, for the St. Andrew mine. Very fine.)"

The county of Hohnstein was a minor state, neighbor of Stolberg, Eichsfeld and Schwarzburg. It was later partitioned between Hannover and Prussia. This type is noted for 1572-73.
