This specimen was lot 5283 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €440 (about US$569 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOHNSTEIN, GRAFSCHAFT, Volkmar Wolfgang, Eberwein und Ernst VI. 1554-1561. Taler 1557, Ellrich. Ausbeute der Grube St. Andreas. Feine Patina, kl. Schrötlingsfehler, sehr schön +. Exemplar der Auktion H. D. Rauch 79, Wien 2006, Nr. 1185. (county of Hohnstein, Volkmar Wolfgang, Eberwein and Ernst VI, 1554-61, thaler of 1557, Ellrich mint, for the St. Andrew mine. Fine patina, minor planchet defects, choice very fine.)"

The county of Hohnstein was a minor state, neighbor of Stolberg, Eichsfeld and Schwarzburg. The local dynasty fell extinct in 1593. The state was ruled by Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1613-34 and Sayn-Wittgenstein 1634-1701. It was later partitioned between Hannover and Prussia. This thaler was struck 1555-60 and is fairly common. There is also KM MB23 (mule) for 1555 and 1557.

Recorded mintage: unknown.
