Hohenzollern-Hechingen 1783-DFH thaler Dav-2362
This specimen was lot 24022 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $2,585. The catalog description[1] noted, "Hohenzollern-Hechingen. Josef Wilhelm Taler 1783, MS62 NGC. Minor handling marks, with nice luster and scattered russet toning. A very scarce issue, seldom seen in this condition. This exceptional piece also comes with a wonderful original hand written (in ink) envelope, probably from the mid-1800's, or earlier." The principality of Hohenzollern was located in southwest Germany between Baden and Wurttemberg. The prince managed to avoid the Napoleonic consolidations and survived as a state until it was absorbed by Prussia in 1849. Coin issues are few.
