Künker Auction 425, lot 2203

This specimen was lot 2203 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €1,900 (about US$2,691 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · HILDESHEIM, BISTUM Sedisvakanz 1724. Reichstaler 1724, mit Titel Karls VI. Feine Patina, fast vorzüglich. (Germany, bishopric of Hildesheim, sede vacante, thaler of 1724, struck in the name of Charles VI. Fine patina, about extremely fine.)"

This thaler was issued by the cathedral chapter during the vacancy between Joseph Clement (r. 1702-23) and Clement August (r. 1723-61). Both were princes of Bavaria and both were elected archbishops of Cologne and resided there. The diocese was overwhlemingly Lutheran.
