This specimen was lot 276 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 4,500 CHF (about US$6,858 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Hessen-Darmstadt, Landgrafschaft, ab 1806 Grossherzogtum. Ernst Ludwig, 1648-1739. Taler 1696, Giessen. Ausbeute der Grube Rother Gottesgabe. Münzmeister Johann Adam Rebhuhn. Stempelschneider Gabriel le Clerc. Mit Randschrift. Sehr selten. Fast vorzüglich. Feine Patina. Winzige Schrötlingsfehler. (Germany, landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt, Ernest Louis, 1648-1739, thaler of 1696, Giessen mint, for the Rother Gottesgabe mine, with edge lettering.
