Hesse-Cassel 1814 5 thaler Fr-1290

This specimen was lot 1421 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 7,000 (about US$9,223 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"5 Taler 1814. Kassel Sehr selten. Fast vorzüglich. (Germany, electorate of Hesse-Cassel, five thaler of 1814, very rare, choice extremely fine.)"
This denomination, like all the gold issues of Hesse-Cassel, is rare and expensive. The five thaler was equal to a Prussian friedrichs d'or. This type is noted in the SCWC for 1815 only.

Specification: 6.65 g, 0.900 fine gold, .192 troy oz AGW, this specimen 6.63 g.
