This specimen was struck in Hesse-Cassel for Landgrave Friedrich II (r. 1760-85). The type was issued 1768-72 and is scarce in nice condition. This specimen was lot 1173 in Stephen Album sale 32 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2018), where it sold for $164.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "HESSE-CASSEL: AR 1/6 thaler, 1868, mintmaster FU, PCGS graded MS64, ex Don Erickson Collection."
