Hannover in 1648

This specimen was lot 4256 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €3,000 (about US$4,127 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HANNOVER, STADT Reichstaler (24 Groschen) 1625, mit Titel Ferdinands II. RR Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (city of Hannover, thaler of 1625, struck in the name of Ferdinand II. Very rare, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This rare type, issued by the city, not the duke, was struck 1625 only. A variety exists without the "Z4" on the reverse (KM 28.2/Dav-5389a).

Recorded mintage: 5,748.
