"HANAU-MÜNZENBERG, GRAFSCHAFT Wilhelm IX. (I.) von Hessen-Kassel, 1760-1785, bis 1764 unter Vormundschaft seiner Mutter Maria. Dukat 1764, Hanau, auf seine Vermählung mit Wilhelmine Caroline, Tochter Frederiks V. von Dänemark und Norwegen. GOLD. RR Sehr attraktives, vorzügliches Exemplar. (Germany, county of Hanau-Munzenberg, William IX of Hesse-Kassel, 1760-85, until 1764 under the regency of his mother Maria, ducat of 1764, Hanua, on his wedding to Wilhelmine Caroline, daughter of Frederick V of Denmark and Norway. Rare, very attractive extremely fine.)

(Wilhelm, who later became Elector Wilhelm I, was the son of the Landgrave Friedrich II and his first wife, Mary of England. He was born on June 3, 1743. In 1764, his marriage to Wilhelmina Caroline of Denmark was contracted by his grandfather, Wilhelm VIII, without his knowledge. The marriage was unhappy. After the death of his grandfather, Prince Wilhelm assumed the regency of the county of Hanau-Münzenberg because Frederick II had converted to the Catholic faith. Still young in years, he reigned under the regency of his mother Mary of England until 1764, when he obtained his majority.)"

The neighboring county of Hanau-Lichtenberg passed to rival Hesse-Darmstadt.
