Steve Album sale 51, lot 2931

This specimen was lot 2931 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "HANAU-LICHTENBERG: Friedrich Casimir, 1641-1685, AR 60 kreuzer, 1673, once lightly cleaned and retoned, XF, ex Joe Sedillot Collection." This gulden was accompanied by a half gulden (KM 70) and a thaler (Dav-6702). It was struck 1672-74. Friedrich Casimir's quixotic project to found a colony in South America left the county deeply in debt. Hanau-Munzenberg was erected again in 1691 for Friedrich Casimir's nephew, Philipp Reinhard. Hanau-Lichtenberg eventually fell to Hesse-Darmstadt.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specifications: 19.38 g, silver, 36 mm diameter, this specimen 19.25 g.

Catalog reference: KM-71.4, Dav-547.
