Sincona sale 73, lot 1142
Hameln in 1648. It lies on the Weser between Hanover and Lippe

This specimen was lot 1142 in Sincona sale 73 (Zürich, November 2021), where it sold for 200 CHF (about US$257 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND | Hameln, Stadt. 4 Mariengroschen 1671. Gutes sehr schön. (Germany, city of Hameln, four mariengroschen of 1671. Good very fine.)"

This town in Brunswick-Luneburg issued thalers in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. It is most famous as the place where the Pied Piper allegedly tooted away all the rats. This type was struck 1671 only along with six and 12 mariengroschen. Four mariengroschen = one-ninth thaler.
