This specimen was lot 77250 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2025), where it sold for $105. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Hamelin. 1/24 Taler (Groschen), 1616. Hamelin Mint. Matthias. NGC AU-58." This town in Brunswick-Luneburg issued thalers in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. It is most famous as the place where the Pied Piper allegedly tooted away all the rats. This type was struck 1612-18 and many varieties exist, particularly in the spelling of the legends.
