This specimen was lot 2144 in Sincona sale 23 (Zürich, May 2015), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"Hameln, Stadt, Taler 1544. RR Sehr schön. (Germany, city of Hamelin, thaler of 1544, very rare, very fine.)"
This town in Brunswick-Luneburg issued thalers in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. It is most famous as the place where the Pied Piper allegedly tooted away all the rats. This issue is indeed rare.
