Sincona sale 54, lot 208

This specimen was lot 208 in Sincona sale 54 (Zürich, May 2019), where it sold for 600 CHF (about US$714 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Hamburg, Stadt, Dukat 1868. Gutes vorzüglich. (Germany, city of Hamburg, ducat of 1868, Good extremely fine.)"

This type is listed for 1868-72 and is fairly common for a German ducat of the period. It is distinguished from earlier issues of 1854-67 (KM 579) by the addition of a "B" on the shell below the tablet on the reverse.

Recorded mintage: 25,000.
