This specimen was lot 24717 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Hamburg. Free City gold 2 Ducats 1778, MS65 NGC, struck in the name of Joseph II. An incredible coin with razor sharp design features and full mint brilliance. Very rare in this elite quality." This type was struck 1773-88 in small numbers. Hamburg did not give up minting ducats until 1872, amid the coinage reform resulting from unification.
