Sincona sale 97, lot 1283

This specimen was lot 1283 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 1,900 CHF (about US$2,756 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Hamburg, Stadt, 2 Dukaten 1756, Hamburg. Selten. Nur 505 Exemplare geprägt. Vorzüglich. Kleine Kratzer. (Germany, city of Hamburg, double ducat of 1756, Hamburg mint. Rare. Only 505 specimens struck, Extremely Fine, Small scratches.)"

This rare type was struck 1754-65. Hamburg did not give up minting ducats until 1872, amid the coinage reform resulting from unification.
