This specimen was lot 42236 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $1,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Hamburg. Ducat, 1753-IHL. Hamburg Mint. Free City (in the name of Franz I). NGC MS-61. The final year of the issue for the type, this Mint State exemplar stands as the sole representative of the date in the NGC census, and provides an olive-yellow hue with enchanting crispness of strike." This type was struck 1746-53 in small numbers. Hamburg did not give up minting ducats until 1872, amid the coinage reform resulting from unification. Double ducats (Fr-1124) also exist.
