Sincona sale 87, lot 2233

This specimen was lot 2233 in Sincona sale 87 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 450 CHF (about US$606 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Hamburg, Stadt Dukat 1642, Hamburg. NGC XF40. Prägeschwäche, Weakly struck."

This type was minted more or less uninterruptedly from 1497 to 1667. It is still scarce despite nearly two centuries of production.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold.
