Haiti 1977 500 gourdes Fr-31

from the Stack's Bowers Collector's June 2022 Choice sale, lot 71476

This specimen was lot 71476 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $576. The catalog description^[1] noted, "HAITI. 500 Gourdes, 1977. CHOICE PROOF. Issued to commemorate the 1978 FIFA World Cup in Argentina. Highly mirrored and offering a great cameo. A RARE and seldom seen issue, though some minor fingerprinting causes some cloudiness in the fields. Includes original box and certificate of issue." The regime issued a number of gold 500 gourdes in 1977, including KM 140 (shown here), 141, 142, 143 and 144.

Recorded mintage: 450 plus 200 proofs.

Specification: 8.5 g, 0.900 fine gold, 0.246 troy oz AGW.
