This specimen was lot 71476 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $576. The catalog description[1] noted, "HAITI. 500 Gourdes, 1977. CHOICE PROOF. Issued to commemorate the 1978 FIFA World Cup in Argentina. Highly mirrored and offering a great cameo. A RARE and seldom seen issue, though some minor fingerprinting causes some cloudiness in the fields. Includes original box and certificate of issue." The regime issued a number of gold 500 gourdes in 1977, including KM 140 (shown here), 141, 142, 143 and 144.

Recorded mintage: 450 plus 200 proofs.

Specification: 8.5 g, 0.900 fine gold, 0.246 troy oz AGW.
