Stack's Bowers November 2022 Collectors Choice sale, lot 71622

This specimen was lot 71622 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "HAITI. 50 Centimes, 1883. Paris Mint. PCGS MS-61. A minty example of this attractive type, offering lightly toned surfaces full of luster and sharp details. From the Pat Johnson Collection. Privately purchased from Don Canaparo." This type was struck 1882-83, 1887, 1890 and 1895 during a brief period of political stability in Haiti. All issues seem to have been struck at the Paris mint altho not all are mintmarked. The coin is the same weight and fineness as a contemporary French 2½ francs (had such a coin existed).

Recorded mintage: 400,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 12.50 g, 0.835 fine silver.
