Haiti 1809 15 sols
This specimen was lot 43244 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it sold for $1,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "HAITI. North Haiti. 15 Sols, 1809. PCGS VF-35 Gold Shield. RARE date. Unevenly struck, as is usual for this crude issue, but most of the details are bold. Generally superior to our last offering of this rare type and date (2012 NYINC, lot 2571) but only the tops of the digits of the date are visible. When compared to the example plated in Rudman that exhibits a full bold four digit date '1809' it becomes apparent that the present example was struck with the same die. Lightly toned and attractive." 7½ and thirty sols also exist, the thirty sols being very rare.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
Catalog reference: KM-6; Rudman-57 (same obverse die).
