Gwalior H3082-34250r.jpg

This specimen was lot 34250 in Heritage sale 3082 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $588. The catalog description[1] noted, "India: Gwalior. Jayaji Rao 1/4 Rupee ND (1865-1869) MS66 PCGS, Lashkar mint. Absolutely supreme quality without the least flaw, and almost certainly among the finest known." This and the accompanying half rupee (KM 150) were struck at Lashkar. These are supposed to bear regnal dates, according to the SCWC, but we don't see any such. Jayaji Rao Sindhia ruled 1843-86. Other mints included Gwalior Fort, Jansi, Sheopur, Ujjain, Burhampur and Bhilsa.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 2.65-2.90 g, silver, this specimen 2.75 g.

Catalog reference: KM 149.
