Guyana 1991 10 cents
This specimen was lot 73491 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "GUYANA. 10 Cents, 1991. Llantrisant Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-69 Gold Shield. Tied with just three others for the finest graded in the PCGS census, this glistening Gem verges upon perfection and certainly dazzles the eye, all while emanating from the penultimate year of issue. Ex: Kings Norton Mint Collection." Guyana began its numismatic life as the Dutch-held colony of Essequibo & Demerary, which later became British Guiana. Independence was obtained in 1966. Guyana gravitates toward relations with English-speaking Caribbean island nations such as Trinidad and Tobago rather than with other South American nations. This type was struck 1967-92. The Franklin mint struck cents 1976-80 of a different design; these were sold to collectors.
