This specimen is the first coin issued by Guyana as part of the F.A.O. series and the first Guyanan coin of that denomination. Guyana, the only English speaking region of South America, was a British colony until 1966 and has suffered frequent coups since.
Recorded mintage: 500,000 plus 5,000 proofs.
Specification: copper-nickel, 35.5 mm diameter.
