The first specimen was lot 71179 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $2,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "GUATEMALA. Mint Error -- 30% Brockage Reverse -- 25 Centavos, 1888-G. Guatemala Mint. PCGS VF-30. Cut out almost like a window, this error is an interesting piece to study for the South American or error coin collection. From the Collection of Richard Rossa, formerly of Rossa and Tanenbaum." This type was struck 1881-82 and 1885-89 and most dates are common. This date comes with or without the mintmaster's initial "G". Two reales were also struck in 1881 and 1892-93, a relic of the old colonial system.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.25 g, 0.835 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-205.1.
