Guatemala 1763-G P 8 reales
This specimen was lot 24415 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $1,997.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carlos III Pillar 8 Reales 1763 G-P, XF45 NGC. Well struck, with no flaws and nice light toning. A light rim nick on the obverse near 12 o'clock is of little consequence. 183,728 pieces minted. A rare date, represented by low grade or problem coins in the Amat and Haberthuer groups. Ex. Aureo (Aureo 12/1990, lot 971 for $1,700). From The Isaac Rudman Collection of Guatemala Coins." While Guatemala pillar dollars are scarce compared to the issues of Mexico City or Potosi, they are available for a price. The four and eight reales from this mint are more common than the smaller denominations.
Recorded mintage: 183,728.
Specification: 27.07 g, 0.917 fine silver, 0.798 troy oz ASW.
