This new penny, or 1/100 of a pound, was introduced in 1971 as part of the Great Britain decimal reform. It had no equivalent in the sterling coinage but was worth about two pence ha'penny. It was struck in this style until 1982, when the word "new" was dropped from the reverse. Some dates, such as 1972, were struck only for collector sets. It was recently revised to show king Charles III (KM 2430) but we don't know if it is being struck for circulation.
