Great Britain 1934 3 pence
This specimen was lot 33662 in Heritage sale 3114 (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $1,560. The lot description[1] noted, "Great Britain: George V Proof 3 Pence 1934 PR66 NGC. Surprisingly scarce and incredibly elusive to even the specialist, with nearly none coming to market in the last two decades. Gentle autumnal hues and flash percolate across the needle-sharp devices, contributing to an advanced aesthetic caliber. As one of only two submitted to NGC, we expect fervent interest at the fall of the gavel. From the Abbeygate Collection." The Maundy threepence, with a value reverse (KM 827), was struck in limited numbers 1926-36 but, being entirely saved, is not rare. This type was struck 1927-36 and featured a bust modified from KM 813a to alleviate striking problems.
Recorded mintage: 7,406,000 plus proofs plus 1,887 of the Muandy type (KM 827).
Specification: 1.41 g, 0.500 fine silver, 16.1 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM 831, S-4042.
