Great Britain 1927 6 pence KM-828
This specimen was lot 74135 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 6 Pence, 1927. London Mint. George V. NGC MS-66. Crown reverse. Exceptionally pleasing, this Gem beauty exudes frosty luster and unhandled surfaces." This type was struck in sterling silver 1911-20, then reduced to 0.500 fine for 1920-25. A different bust was introduced in 1926 in an attempt to improve striking quality, then a new reverse with oak leaves was used 1928-36. A few sixpence were struck with the oak leaf reverse were struck in 1927, but only in proof.
