This specimen was lot 37272 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Penny, 1926. London Mint. George V. PCGS MS-65 Red Brown. Variety with original effigy design." This type was first struck in 1911. In 1926, in an attempt to alleviate persistent striking problems, the king's bust was modified (KM 826). This not proving satisfactory, it was modified again in 1928 (KM 838) and struck in that form until 1936.
Recorded mintage: 4,498,500 plus proofs, including KM 826.
Specification: 9.45 g, bronze, 30.8 mm diameter, plain edge.
