Goldberg sale 110, lot 2332
GB G110-2332r.jpg

This specimen was lot 2332 in Goldberg sale 110 (Los Angeles, June 2019), where it sold for $102. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain. Halfpenny, 1856. Victoria. Obverse: Wyon's young head portrait of queen. Reverse: Britannia. Uncirculated with a hint of mint red. NGC graded MS-64 Brown." This half penny was struck 1838-60 and is common, tho the proofs are rare. It shares the same design with the farthing and penny. The pure copper composition wore rapidly in circulation, leaving few survivors today in nice condition.

Recorded mintage: 1,942,000, a somewhat better date.

Specification: 8.8 g, copper.

Catalog reference: S.3949; KM-726.
