Ponterio sale 150, lot 9421

This coin was lot 9421 in Ponterio sale 150 (Los Angeles, August 2009), where it sold for $1552.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 6 Pence, 1821. Ex: Terner Collection. Beautifully toned, PCGS MS-68." The type was struck in 1821 only and is the first and scarcest of three types (KM 678, 691 and 698) to feature king George IV (r. 1820-30). Sixpences were struck at this standard until 1920.

Recorded mintage: 863,000.

Specification: 2.82 g, 0.925 fine silver, .084 troy oz ASW.
