This specimen was lot 20310 in Ponterio sale 176 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $940. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. George III, 1760-1820. Half-Guinea, 1788. NGC MS-62. Fifth laureate bust right. Rv. Crowned quartered, spade-shaped shield with arms. A fresh, original coin with bold luster. Ex: Superior, 1979 ANA." This type, struck 1787-1800, is the commonest English gold coin of the eighteenth century.
