This specimen was lot 31284 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Guinea, 1786. London Mint. George III. PCGS MS-63. The finest of the date certified by PCGS, the present, highly select example offers extremely strong and glistening mint luster and exceptionally applied details. A handsome representation of a 'spade' Guinea that escapes the normal marking and friction observed on these types. From the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection." This type was struck 1774-86 and is common in circulated condition. The reform of 1817 terminated all guinea-denominated issues in favor of the sovereign. At that time the guinea, which heretofore had varied in value, was fixed at 21 shillings.
